Juan worked for the San Diego Unified School District for 38 years: as a teacher, resource teacher, vice principal, and principal. He received the AASD Educator to Watch Award and was also awarded the AASD Distinguished Leader Award. Juan was involved in organizing AASD into a collective bargaining unit, serving many years on Board of Directors and Executive Board, and eventually serving as AASD President. He continues to work at schools throughout SDUSD as a interim administrator, and enjoys assisting and representing AASD and UASC members when needed, in his retirement. Juan also enjoys spending time with his family (especially his grandchildren) and friends, hiking, golfing and traveling.
