AASU Members,
As we enter the final two months of the school year, I want to take a moment to recognize the incredible work each of you continues to do on behalf of your schools, students, and communities. This time of year brings both celebration and challenge—finishing strong, supporting staff and students, and preparing for what lies ahead.
I encourage each of you to stay focused, take care of yourselves, and lean on one another. You are not in this work alone. Our strength as an association comes from our shared commitment and our willingness to support one another through both the rewarding and the difficult moments.
Please also remember that your union is here to stand by you. Whether you need guidance, advocacy, or simply someone to talk through a situation, AASU is committed to supporting you every step of the way. Do not hesitate to reach out—we are stronger together, and your voice matters.
Let’s finish the year with purpose, pride, and unity.
Wishing you all continued strength and a successful close to the school year!
Congratulations to our AASU Principal of the Year, Sasha, and Assistant Principal of the Year, Juan Neria, for their outstanding leadership and impact on our school communities.
Sasha exemplifies authentic and courageous leadership. During a districtwide gathering with Black Student Union students and advisors, she created a space where students felt seen, heard, and empowered. As a BSU Elder, she facilitated meaningful dialogue, shared her own experiences, and inspired students to lead with purpose. Her balance of strength and vulnerability left a lasting impact on both students and staff, reinforcing the importance of belonging and representation.
Juan Neria’s leadership is defined by organization, foresight, and collaboration. While developing the master calendar alongside planning Adelante Latino and strengthening site intervention systems, he skillfully aligned multiple priorities to ensure coherence and maximize student access. His ability to anticipate challenges and proactively problem-solve reflects a deep commitment to supporting both students and staff.
We are proud to recognize Sasha and Juan for their dedication, leadership, and the positive difference they make every day. Congratulations!
