AFSA Secretary-Treasurer Karl E. Perry joined labor leaders from across the country for informal policy discussions with members of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) during an evening gathering at the AFL-CIO headquarters in our nation’s capital. The meeting took place in conjunction with the CBC Foundation’s 54th Annual Legislative Conference (ALC), held September 24–28, 2025.
Discussions centered on major issues affecting working families, including economic development, social justice, public health, and education. Labor leaders underscored the importance of forging stronger partnerships with lawmakers to ensure workers—particularly those in education and public service—have a voice in shaping national policy.
The ALC is recognized as the nation’s premier policy conference addressing issues impacting African Americans and the global Black community. This year’s five-day program features marquee events such as the Day of Healing Prayer Breakfast, the National Town Hall, the Phoenix Awards, and the Black Party.
By convening legislators, industry leaders, advocates, and citizen activists, the ALC provides a national platform for dialogue and action on the most pressing challenges facing Black communities and the broader nation.
