Statement on Findings of Parkland School Shooting Panel

The American Federation of School Administrators disagrees with the idea of arming educators as way to stop school shootings.
AFSA is both outraged and deeply saddened by the killings at Parkland and the rash of school shootings that have devastated our nation for the past two decades. We lost one of our own members at Sandy Hook.

However, the best response to school gun violence is a legislation that limits the sale and/or transfer of guns to minors and supports the provision of appropriate mental health services to help identify and treat students who are at risk for perpetrating acts of school gun violence. It is for these reasons that AFSA has been leading the way asking Congress to pass Federal legislation to address these issues.
