March 14, 2018 marks the one month anniversary of the mass shooting at the Marjory Stoneman Douglass High School in Parkland, Florida. Students around the country united to call for changes in gun policy and walked out of class at10 amlocal time. The walkout, with the tagline #EnoughIsEnough, lasted 17 minutes one minute for each person murdered in Parkland. The walkout is partly a protest to push lawmakers to pass gun reform and partly a memorial to honor victims killed by firearms.
Our members ofSt. Thomas/St. John Educational Administrators Association, AFSA Local 101 in the U.S. Virgin Islands supported and stood with the students in the U.S. Virgin Islands.
"TheVirgin Islands Department of Education family is in support of the walk out. Gun violence has plagued our society and our nation for far too long. We stand up in full support of the Parkland community and send a strong message to our legislatures that a stricter gun laws and policies must be put into place to avoid these senseless killings. Together we stand!," said Carver Farrow, president of St. Thomas/St. John Educational Administrators Association, AFSA Local 101.
