Charter and Magnet Schools

WHEREAS, the American Federation of School Administrators (AFSA) supports innovation in the public school sector and

WHEREAS, Charter and Magnet Schools may have a direct educational and economic impact upon the public schools,

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the American Federation of School Administrators (AFSA) encourage legislative leaders to democratize the process of chartering schools by allowing meaningful local review of the impact of charter schools on individual districts and,

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that charter school applicants must demonstrate the ability to operate a proposed school in an educationally and fiscally sound manner and show how student learning and achievement will improve and,

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that charter school applicants hold no fewer than three public hearings to get feedback and address taxpayer and community concerns and,

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that prior to the initial application, the proposed charter entity present to the school board or chartering entity for approval or disapproval a comprehensive charter school budget, a capital component and an administrative component and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that there be collective bargaining rights for all administrators and employees of charter schools.
