Safe Public School Environment

The American Federation of School Administrators (AFSA) believes that it is the responsibility of the entire school community to create and maintain a safe and orderly environment. Children and staff should be safe from physical, verbal, and psychological violence, harassment or threats.  There must be a written discipline policy that has a fair and equitable enforcement procedure that must be consistently enforced by appropriately trained personnel.  The creation and enforcement of such a plan must include the input from the AFSA locals, staff, parents, students, and the community.  Alternative education programs must be provided for students who consistently engage in violent or disruptive behavior.  These students are entitled to due process before placement.
